A BROTHER and sister from Pwllheli who tragically lost a sibling to an epilepsy related condition have been awarded a volunteer award by a national charity.

Carwyn Roberts and Llinos Williams were presented with the national charity volunteer award from Epilepsy Action at an awards ceremony in Leeds during February.

The pair have been raising funds for Epilepsy Action Cymru in memory of their brother Dylan who died as a result of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) in May 2007 when he was just 18 years old.

Carwyn and Llinos, who both have epilepsy themselves, are determined to raise money for Epilepsy Action Cymru. They are also driven to raise awareness of SUDEP.

To date, the pair have raised nearly £5,000 with a pool competition and a sponsored walk up Snowdon. They also run a support group for people with epilepsy in Pwllheli.

Accepting the award, Llinos said: “My brother and I are thrilled to receive this award from Epilepsy Action.

“Raising funds for Epilepsy Action Cymru and raising awareness of epilepsy are brilliant ways for us to remember Dylan. Knowing that our volunteering has played a small part in improving the lives of people with epilepsy is very rewarding.”

Philip Lee, chief executive at Epilepsy Action, presented the award to the siblings.

He said: “We are delighted to acknowledge Carwyn and Llinos at this year’s Epilepsy Action Volunteer Awards.

"These awards reflect the wonderful efforts of the recipients and mark our appreciation for the tremendous work that all our volunteers undertake.

“At Epilepsy Action we achieve what we do because of the support of our fantastic volunteers. Those here today have played a very special role in helping us to improve the lives of the 600,000 people with epilepsy across the UK.”
