WORLD-RENOWNED opera singer Bryn Terfel visited Criccieth as part of a new television show which follows him on a musical journey across Wales.

In the programme Taith Bryn Terfel: Gwlad y Gan Bryn will perform in a number of unfamiliar locations, including a canal-boat in Llangollen, an old lifeboat hut in Newport, Pembrokeshire and Craig y Nós Castle in the Upper Swansea Valley.

On the first leg of the journey, Bryn visits the town of Cricieth near his native Pantglas, to perform near the historic castle, with musical accompaniment from harpist Hannah Stone.

He said: “Everything fell into place perfectly in Criccieth.

“The castle, the weather, the music, the crew, the harpist! It was a real joy to perform Dafydd y Garreg Wen in the open air while looking out towards the birthplace of the song. It was rather different to visiting the castle as a youngster after several ice creams!”

Taith Bryn Terfel: Gwlad y Gan will be shown on S4C on Saturday, 23 July at 8pm.
