Duck Race

DESPITE the atrocious stormy weather conditions with tropical rain and nearby thunder and lightning, a very successful Duck Race was held in Bryncrug on Saturday, 28 May. The proceeds, amounting to almost £800, were donated to Y Ganolfan Bryncrug Community Centre Ltd. Those who attended enjoyed the event despite ending up wet through to the skin. The heat winners were as follows: Heat 1 – Gary Furneaux; Heat 2 – Owain Evans; Heat 3 – Dawn Hall; Heat 4 – Craig Morton; Heat 5 – Ieu Thomas; Heat 6 – Michaela McEvoy; Heat 7 – Helena O’Connor. The overall winner of the final race was William Jones of Pant. Winners of the raffle were: Sian Bell, Delyth Williams, Gwen, Emily Clarke and Lisa Jones. Anne Heal won the competition to guess the combined weight of four live lambs. The organisers would like to express their gratitude to everyone who helped by selling ducks, preparing the field, releasing and catching the ducks in the river and stewarding various stalls. Finally a very big thank you to Mr R J Roberts and family for the use of their field next to the river.
