CALLS for changes to the T1 and T2 TrawsCymru bus services to enable passengers to make a connection in Aberystwyth are “not achievable”, according to the Welsh Government.
Dr John McTighe, who is from Llanrhystud, has been lobbying TrawsCymru and the Welsh Government for over 10 months over the T1 and T2 services, after missing his connection at 6.40pm in Aberystwyth on several occasions.
Dr McTighe has said that the current situation, which sees the T2 service from north Wales arrive at Aberystwyth just as the T1 service to Carmarthen leaves, has left passengers stranded and shows that passengers in mid Wales are not being given the same consideration as passengers in north and south Wales.
But despite repeated requests from Dr McTighe for changes, the Welsh Government has insisted that changes could not be made as it was important to protect connections at Dolgellau and Carmarthen.
The spokesperson said: “For contractual and operational reasons this is not achievable at the moment.
“Firstly, we cannot delay the departure of the 18.40 TrawsCymru T1 service to Carmarthen as the service needs to arrive at Carmarthen station by 20.37 in order to allow passengers to connect with the last train of the day to Swansea and Cardiff.
“Secondly, we cannot bring forward the arrival time into Aberystwyth of the TrawsCymru T2 bus service from Bangor as the timetable is governed by the need to maintain connections with the key east-west TrawsCymru T3 Wrexham to Barmouth bus service in Dolgellau.”
