Some TrawsCymru drivers are refusing to work the Aberaeron-Aberystwyth route at weekend due to rowdy passengers, it has emerged.

The drivers say they are fed up with running the gauntlet of drunken customers taking advantage of the company’s free weekend travel scheme.

However, PC Helen Yelland told Aberaeron town councillors that uniformed police have since started patrolling the buses, and no further cases had been reported over the past four weeks.

“We have been working with TrawsCymru and have been putting up posters asking people to behave,” she added.

Cllr Elizabeth Evans said customers appreciated the free weekend transport scheme.

“It would certainly be a shame if TrawsCymru were unable to get drivers for the weekend shifts,” she said.

A spokesperson for TrawsCymru said: “We have received reports of isolated incidents of anti-social behaviour on certain services on weekends. We are working proactively with Dyfed-Powys Police, local authorities and operators to minimise the problem.”
