North Wales Police and Arriva have teamed up to launch a campaign to raise awareness of disability hate crime.

The campaign, part of Hate Crime Awareness Week, will see North Wales Police posters appearing on Arriva buses across north Wales.

To raise awareness of the seriousness of hate crime, the posters will touch on the importance of reporting disability hate crime as well as sending a clear message to those who commit the crime in an attempt to reduce incidents.

North Wales Police are also urging the public to help out by using the hashtag #StopHateOnMyBus to get the campaign trending.

Greg George, North Wales Police head of diversity, said: “We have seen an increase in disability hate crime reported to North Wales Police over the last five years.

“We want to continue to raise the profile of disability hate crime and are working with Arriva on this campaign to send a clear message to the community.”

Mr George added: “We are also keen to ensure that potential criminals understand that this type of crime is unacceptable. We welcome members of the community to use the hashtag #StopHateOnMyBus to support this campaign, and to help raise its profile to so many people across North Wales.”

Anthony Holyfield, North Wales operational manager, said: “Arriva Buses, in partnership with North Wales Police, is delighted to support this Disability Crime awareness campaign. It is important that people feel safe travelling on our buses.

“We send a clear message to hate offenders that this will not be tolerated.”
