TRAINS will be replaced by bus services between Aberystwyth and Machynlleth for five days early next month due to “essential” works at Dovey Junction.

The news comes after a “mini village” was set up at the remote train station as Network Rail prepare to carry out upgrade works on the Afon Llyfnant rail bridge.

Ysgubor y Coed community councillor Alison Swanson said: “As you can see it has been transformed into a mini village.”

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Afon Llyfnant underbridge — on the approach to Dovey Junction Station — will be refurbished as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan.

“This essential upgrade work is scheduled to take place from Saturday, 4 February, to Wednesday, 8 February, and we have started accessing the site ahead of this work commencing.

“Rail services will be affected between Dovey Junction and Aberystwyth, and Machynlleth and Aberystwyth, and bus replacements will be in operation.

“We ask that passengers check before they travel via National Rail Enquiries.”
