UNHAPPY owners of one of Lampeter’s best restaurants which was awarded a food hygiene rating of one out of five are refusing to pay the council £150 to have a re-inspection.
Castle Green, a pub and restaurant on Bryn Road which is listed on Trip Advisor as the number one restaurant in Lampeter, was given the second-lowest food hygiene rating possible following an inspection on 16 September.
Bryan Beynon, who is chef and owner along with his wife, Mavis, said he wasn’t happy with the reasons given for such a low score.
He said these included turning a tap off with his hand after washing his hands and not logging the names of staff members when they complete regular cleaning.
“Everything was in my book; the only thing that wasn’t was the name of the staff member,” said Mr Beynon.
“We lost four points on the log book alone.
“It hasn’t affected us too much because we have a good reputation — my food methods are right, which makes it harder to understand the rating. I could understand the rating if I had blood all over the place, but of course I don’t.”
A food hygiene rating of one indicates “major improvement necessary”.
The county council said it could not comment.
