Ceredigion County Council has sought to reassure parents of schoolchildren following the disclosure that a well-known coach operator recently had their licence suspended.
The Cambrian News reported earlier this month that Brodyr James Cyfyngedig, of Llangeitho, had their public service vehicle operator’s licence suspended for 21 days by the Deputy Traffic Commissioner for Wales.
Brodyr James, who have been operating for almost 40 years, specialise in minibus hire, executive coaches, long distance travel, private hire, local and continental coach hire and airport transfers.
The company also transport school pupils and one parent has spoken of his concerns at recent developments.
“There have to be question marks over the safety of schoolchildren travelling on Brodyr James buses and I wonder what assurances Ceredigion County Council can provide,” said a worried parent.
A County Hall spokesperson said the local authority took the safety of students travelling to schools and colleges very seriously.
“The outcome of the Traffic Commissioner’s inquiry had no direct impact on contracts provided by the company on behalf of the council,” she added.
“However, we do believe that the measures taken by the Traffic Commissioner are reasonable."
