A national company has spoken of its delight at getting the go-ahead to build a £6m hotel and restaurant in Porthmadog, creating 30 jobs.

The green light was given to Premier Inn last month to build an 80-bedroom hotel and restaurant on Porthmadog’s picturesque Britannia Terrace.

Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Nick Johnston, acquisition manager for the north west, Wales and Scotland at Premier Inn, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning approval for an 80-bedroom Premier Inn hotel and Thyme restaurant on Britannia Terrace in Porthmadog.

“The new Premier Inn will be our third hotel in Gwynedd and our decision to invest in the area reflects strong customer demand for Premier Inn bedrooms in this outstanding area of Wales.

“We’re investing £6 million into the new hotel and restaurant, which will create 30 new jobs to be focused in Porthmadog and the local area.

“The new hotel and restaurant will help to support the local economy by attracting visitors all year round to Porthmadog, the incredible Portmeirion village and Snowdonia National Park.”

The hotel, which will be built on the site of the town’s Ty Moelwyn tax office, was given the go-ahead after councillors were convinced of the economic benefits that it would bring.

This was despite concerns that the proposed 56 on-site parking spaces would not be enough.
