The Aberystwyth funfair will return to the town next month with a shortened schedule as organisers say it is has to “move with the times”.

The ride-filled fair, a mainstay of Aberystwyth for more than 180 years, has traditionally been staged on Mondays and Saturdays over a three-week period in November.

This year Vernon Studt, who has run the fair for the past 40 years, has decided to pack the same amount of opening days into just one week in a bid to boost numbers, and to avoid taking up the town’s large overspill car park for “longer than necessary”.

“It is something I have been thinking about for a few years,” Mr Studt said. “We are usually taking up the car park for so long, but only open twice a week.

“I know it is a change for people, we have been opened Mondays and Saturdays for decades and decades. But we have to move with the times and we are going to try this new format for the next few years. I hope people will embrace it.”

The fair will return to the town next month, with its traditional opening Monday night to be held on 19 November.

It will then be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a few hours open on Sunday before a final closing night on Monday, 26 November.

Mr Studt said he hoped the changes would attract more visitors, but would also be easier for the teams that run the attractions and rides.
