PUBS across Dwyfor and Meirionnydd have enjoyed heady success after being listed in a prestigious pub guide.

The establishments have been acclaimed for the quality of their real ale – by members of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

Pen Cob in Pwllheli’s Station Square is listed in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide 2019, the UK’s best-selling beer and pub guide.

It is the only pub in the town to be chosen by local CAMRA branch members for inclusion in the guide following regular visits to check on the quality of the real ales on offer.

They also took into account customer service, décor and overall atmosphere.

A CAMRA spokesman said: “Pen Cob deserves its place in the Good Beer Guide 2019.

“It is our belief that if a licensee serves an excellent pint of real ale, then everything else in the pub, including customer service, quality of food and atmosphere, are likely to be of an equally high standard.”

The pub’s manager, Jonathan Jarvis, said: “I am delighted that Pen Cob has been recognised for the quality of its real ales by CAMRA members.

“We offer our customers an excellent range of real ales at all times, including those from regional brewers and microbrewers, as well as hosting our own beer festivals.

“Staff at the pub work hard to ensure that the real ales on offer are kept in first-class condition at all times and the pub’s inclusion in the guide highlights this.”

Other pubs in Dwyfor Meirionnydd to make the list include Ty Newydd, Aberdaron; The Royal Hotel, Barmouth; The Cross Foxes, Brithdir; Torrent Walk Hotel, Dolgellau; Y Pengwern, Llan Ffestiniog; Bryntirion Inn, Llandderfel; Eagles Inn, Llanuwchllyn; Grape Hotel, Maentwrog; Bragdy Llyn, Nefyn; Ty Coch Inn, Porthdinllaen; The Australia, Royal Sportsman Hotel, and Spooner’s Bar in Porthmadog; and Union Inn, Tremadog.
