A BRAND new 60-bed hotel is being mooted for Harlech, creating dozens of jobs, the Cambrian News can reveal.

Plans, which are at an early stage, are being drawn up to demolish the town’s swimming pool and build a hotel in its place - but investors would have to be found.

The plans would see Harlech getting a new swimming pool in another location.

Jonny Martin, a member of Harlech in Action, a group of organisations pushing to promote and better Harlech is working with golfers D J Russell and Ian Woosnam to try to bring a hotel to Harlech.

Mr Woosnam, a popular Welsh sportsman famed for his performance in the Ryder Cup, and D J Russell, a hotelier and professional golfer, are both supporting the bid.

Mr Russell already runs the four-star Machrie Hotel on the Scottish Isle of Islay.

Harlech in Action is excited about the proposal, but warns that the plans are in a very early stage, have not been costed yet, and would require the town’s swimming pool to be knocked down and rebuilt elsewhere.

“An outline scheme shows that a four-storey 60-plus bed hotel with car parking, restaurant and roof terrace is feasible, were the swimming pool site to be available,” said Mr Martin.

“Presuming agreement could be reached locally, potential investors of the type required for Harlech would be approached with the fully costed model.
