AN ‘EXTRAORDINARY’ bed and breakfast is celebrating after being listed in the Good Hotel Guide.

Coes Faen Lodge Spa BB and Restaurant, near Barmouth, is an Editor’s Choice Discovery in the independent Good Hotel Guide 2018.

A hotel inspector made a secret visit to the five star B&B and Restaurant which is justly proud of its “jaw-dropping” interior design, contemporary food, extensive wine list, high levels of service and attention to detail.

“You can’t apply or pay to be in the guide,” said manager Amanda Evans from Harlech.

“We would love to know who the hotel inspector was, but will probably never know.”

The luxurious B&B, already holder of the Visit Wales Gold Award, is owned by Sara and Richard Parry-Jones who live in iconic Coes Faen Hall opposite, affectionately known as The Clockhouse on the beautiful Mawddach Estuary.

Richard, a world-renowned car designer, and Sara, a former editor of the Cambrian News, came up with the new concept in tourism accommodation, after looking to breathe new life into the Lodge.

“The team here is delighted with the award and credit must also go to former members of staff who have since taken on other challenges but remain part of the Coes Faen community,” said Sara after the Independent Hotel Show in London on Tuesday.

Beneath the lodge’s sophisticated exterior beats a green heart with sustainability built into the very fabric of the building.

Heating and hot water is provided by a wood fired bio-mass boiler and solar panels, sheep’s wool tops provide insulation in all the loft spaces and a new electric charging point for cars is freely available to guests.
