TESCO bosses have decided not to open their new store in Aberystwyth 24 hours a day.

However, Morrisons has confirmed that it is seeking permission for the petrol station to open 24 hours a day, also selling alcohol.

Ceredigion County Council had said the possibility of Tesco opening around the clock had been included in planning documents.

But a Tesco spokesperson, confirming the store will open in November, said: “The opening hours will be 6am to 10pm on Monday to Saturday, and 11am to 5pm Sunday.”

A Morrisons spokesperson said: “Customers have told us they would like to pick up some essentials as they’re filling up. We’ve listened and are improving the range available in our Aberystwyth station to include freshly ground coffee and meal deals as well as a small selection of beers and wines. We take the sale of alcohol seriously and have a number of measures in place, including our stringent ‘Challenge 25’ policy.”
