Businesses near a busy Lampeter street have raised concerns over plans to remove car parking.
Ceredigion Council is considering plans to create a 600-metre green corridor from Pont Steffan Park to the town’s Sainsbury’s store.
If funding can be found, the £200,000 scheme would see the removal of on-street parking along Market Street. It would be replaced with trees and small bays for market stalls.
Businesses in the area have this week said they have not been consulted over the plans.
Neil Turnbull, of Six Nations Fruit and Veg, told the Cambrian News that neither he nor other local business owners and landlords had been approached by council officials and were only aware of the plan after local councillor Hag Harris provided a copy of a Ceredigion Cabinet report.
But Mr Turnbull said the plans would cause a string of problems, including possible access for emergency service vehicles, as well as causing problems for the businesses.
He said: “Nobody has been told about this.
“Nobody has come in and explained to us what is going on.
“If you read through, they say they’ve gone through and spoken to everyone, but nobody has had any information.”
Mr Turnbull warned that removing free parking and instead telling motorists to use the nearby council-operated pay and display car park could hit the amount of people who visit Lampeter.
He said that Market Street, which is intended mostly for pedestrians, had problems with speeding vehicles, but despite repeated requests, no traffic calming measures had been introduced.
He also warned that any proposal for market stalls would not be realistic if any stallholders had to park significant distances from the stall, and could even cause problems for emergency services.
