A NEWLY modernised post office in Dolgellau has been given a stamp of approval and will re-launch itself this month.

The Post Office has announced that longer opening hours will be available to its customers in the modernised branch at Siop Glyndwr, it will have a modern open plan, a choice of foreign currencies and some Post Office services will also be available at the retail counter during the shop’s opening hours.

Cllr Dyfrig Siencyn, who represents Dolgellau North on Gwynedd Council, said: “This is good news for the market town of Dolgellau, here in Meirionnydd.

“With so many services being cut, it is possible that towns and rural areas could become deprived of services.

“I warmly welcome the Post Office investment for the town, especially as we hear that some branches in Wales are likely to be privatised. The investment and upgrading of the Post Office branch offers positive news to the residents of the town and the wider area it serves,” he said.

The whole modernising programme includes 8,000 Post Office branches and an investment in 3,000 community and outreach branches. The scheme aims to create a more modern and convenient shopping experience for customers.

“With the axe falling on services across Wales, recreating Siop Glyndwr into a new main style Post Office branch here in Dolgellau also secure jobs in the town. This is good news for postal workers in Dolgellau and for the wider area.

“As the number of people using the service do much more than simply buy stamps these days, plus with some banks also closing across Wales, the Post Office also offers key financial services to Meirionnydd residents,” Councillor Dyfrig Siencyn concluded.

The branch at Dolgellau will close its doors for the refurbishment work late on Thursday afternoon, 11 February and will reopen at 1pm on Tuesday, 23 February.
