A NEWCASTLE Emlyn businesswoman estimates that recent pension reforms have "robbed" her of somewhere in the region of £48,000.
Suzanna Alexander-Ford has calculated this amount based on a ’lost’ pension of five years and eight months, along with winter fuel allowances.
Ms Alexander-Ford, who runs the Welsh Cob Shop online business from her home in Adpar, says she only had two years’ notice of the changes when she was aged 58 in 2012.
“I was horrified to discover I would not be receiving my state pension until 6 January, 2020,” she said.
“Yet friends just a few months older are able to draw their pensions now.
“I guess I’m lucky to be fit and well and feel really sorry for those who are struggling with their health.
“Notifications of these changes were apparently made in newspapers such at the Financial Times and The Times, but they weren’t on the front page so I doubt that many people saw them.
“People need to be made aware of this injustice – and the government needs to be made aware that those affected are not simply going to go away.
“I only found out about these changes when I applied for a pension forecast.
“It is outrageous - no private company or investment scheme would get away with treating its members in this way."
