Plastic Free Lampeter was officially launched at an event at the Victoria Hall which saw the presentation of the first plastic-free awards to local traders The Mulberry Bush, Creative Cove and Watson & Pratts.
“It is really fantastic for Lampeter to have gained Plastic Free Community status from Surfers Against Sewage,” said town councillor Dinah Mulholland who is also the chair of Plastic Free Lampeter, “and to have become one of the few inland communities so far in Wales to achieve this plastic-free status.
“We already have lots more traders and organisations getting ready to join The Mulberry Bush, Watson & Pratts and Creative Cove in gaining their individual plastic-free awards.
“We are looking forward to raising awareness of plastic-free packaging and products, of issues with recycling, developing work with the local schools and holding regular community events.
“Lampeter has embraced the plastic-free movement with great enthusiasm and we are keenly aware that we have a duty to protect our planet in this and other ways so that our futures can be sustainable.
“We are a community with a heart and a conscience and this award is a true reflection of that.”
