PLANS to re-introduce post office service in Morfa Bychan have been welcomed.

Concerns were raised earlier this year after the Post Office, which was situated inside the select convenience store, closed.

Cllr Selwyn Griffiths, who represents Morfa Bychan on Gwynedd Council, began talks with Post Office to bring the service back to the village as soon as possible.

Post Office has now confirmed that they will be introducing an outreach service back in the same location.

A spokesperson for Post Office said: “We received a very small number of comments from customers during the consultation period, in support of the re-opening of the branch as it welcomed the restoration of Post Offices’ services in the area.

“However, there was concern regarding the reduction in opening hours.

“I can confirm that the proposed four-hourly sessions of service two- times a week have been based on customer usage of the post office and we are therefore confident that a four-hour service on Tuesday and Friday each week will adequately cope with customer demand.

“We will, however, continue to review and monitor this service on an ongoing basis, and should customer usage increase significantly, consideration would be given to adjusting opening times accordingly.”

Cllr Griffiths has welcomed the news that the service is to be re-introduced into the village.

He said: “I’m extremely pleased that the post office will re-open in Morfa Bychan, even though it will only be part time.”
