TWO Pwllheli businesses have chipped in to help a local foodbank provide Christmas dinners for those less fortunate.

The Black Lion held a raffle during a charity weekend and raised enough money to be able to buy a full Christmas dinner for two families of four and also had enough money left over to buy some Christmas treats.

Organisers of Banc Bwyd Pwllheli Foodbank say they are very grateful to Lorraine Relf and Jacquie Jones, the new landlords of the Black Lion, for the thoughtful gesture.

Asda has also lent the foodbank a helping hand this Christmas.

Ursula Whitehouse of Banc Bwyd Pwllheli Foodbank made an emergency request to Jo Scott, community colleague for Asda Pwllheli, as stocks were low on salmon and ham – products which are not donated very often.

Ursula said: “We held our Big Give Out on Tuesday, where all Christmas food for families is given for the festive period.

“We are so grateful to Asda for once again helping us and for the recent donation of tins of ham and salmon.

“These will be a very welcome addition to the food stock to be distributed to local people in crisis referred to the foodbank by social workers and healthcare professionals.

“Christmas is an extremely stressful time for most households and for those with financial problems the stress is magnified. The foodbank is anxious to provide a few more luxurious items to their customers to mark the festive season.

“The support given by Asda Pwllheli throughout the year enables the foodbank to help many people who may otherwise be short of basic food and toiletries.”
