All had to give up at least three items of single-use plastic in order to earn the village its coveted Plastic-free status - the first community in Wales to achieve the accolade.
Businesses who have made the mark include the Ship Inn, London House Stores, Cwtch Glanmordy, Helyg Fach caravan site, Water’s Edge cafe and the Gogerddan Arms.
Plastic-free campaigner Gail Tudor said: “It’s thanks to the efforts of these local businesses that we managed to achieve plastic-free status in such a short period of time.”
Aberporth, New Quay and Aberystwyth have achieved Plastic Free Town accreditation from Surfers Against Sewage, a UK-wide environmental campaigning charity focused on protection of the marine environment.
Under the scheme, businesses sign up to the initiative and change at least three items from single-use plastic to more sustainable alternatives.
There will also be community outreach with schools talks and engagement with community groups, local governance support and community events.
Accredited businesses in Aberystwyth so far include Medina, The Treehouse, Baravin, Maeth y Meysydd, Sophie’s and Crimson Rhino with others are currently being added and accredited.
