A BUSY road in Porthmadog has been branded ‘an accident waiting to happen’ due to a risky crossing point for children during market days.

Cllr Angharad ab Iorwerth said she is concerned about the traffic flow in the town in a number of areas.

She told her fellow councillors at a Porthmadog Town Council meeting that she feared for pedestrians safety in some parts of the town.

She said: “During the summer Bank Place is an absolutely awful junction to get out from.

“There is not enough room for cars to turn left at the junction if another vehicle is turning right, so what ends up happening is a large tailback up the road.

“An area which really worries me is the road near Heol y Parc car park. When the market is on there it is very difficult for people to be able to cross the road properly as their view is blocked by the cabins, it really is an accident waiting to happen."

A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “Officers from the Council’s Transportation and Street Care Service have visited the site to discuss the Bank Place crossing."
