Madam,

The relief road is nothing to do with making it quicker to bypass Llanbedr, but to enable the airfield to operate efficiently, with its traffic not affecting the village. It will also cut down on Shell Island cars clogging up the bridge.

The very old bridge has recently been struck by some unknown heavy vehicle, dislodging large stones and putting the gate out of true. It has also been reported that the bridge in Llanrwst was damaged by a tractor, closing it for nearly a week. That would not be very good for our village.

A relief road would allow emergency vehicles to operate freely. Remember, it could be you who requires such help. Studies of gridlocks in high season is all very well, but remember traffic increases every year, especially with people falling in love with 4X4s. Jams will only get worse. Whether vehicles are driven or robotic, they are still big lumps of steel.

You get very little passing trade when traffic is stuck and there is no parking. The Porthmadog bypass was deemed to take trade away, but I often have difficulty parking in the High Street. I must reiterate that a road was physically marked out long ago, so I hope people were told about it before they bought houses.

Don’t forget the health and safety of all village inhabitants. The anti-bypass group have done nothing to stop the continuous speeding all year long.

Yours etc

Chris Smith
