Gwynedd Council’s leader has announced a Cabinet reshuffle after two longstanding members announced their intention to step down to the back benches.
Peredur Jenkins, the portfolio holder for finance and Gareth Roberts, who holds the care brief, will both be stepping back at the end of the current financial year.
Replacing them, although their roles have not yet been defined, will be councillors Cemlyn Davies and Catrin Wager, thus doubling the female representation on the cabinet which is currently made up of Nia Jeffreys.
Paying tribute to the departing duo, the council leader, Dyfrig Siencyn, said: “After many years of service and dedication to their Service areas, I would like to sincerely thank Gareth Roberts and Peredur Jenkins for their tireless work.
“A member of the council’s executive board and then the Cabinet, Cllr Roberts was initially responsible for Environment – including Planning and Transport; Highways and Municipal Services and Ymgynhoriaeth Gwynedd Consultancy – for several years as the council developed its recycling services and reduced the percentage of waste sent to the landfill.
“Since 2015, Cllr Roberts has been a Cabinet Member for Care, leading on Adults, Health and Wellbeing matters and on the work of modernising the provision and ensuring that services meet the needs and expectations of the individual, and expanding the dementia provision locally through Council’s residential homes.
“I’m certain that Gareth will continue to make a valuable contribution to the work of the council during the coming years and will continue as an active local member for the Aberdaron area.”
