A GROUP of Llyn women have stripped off to raise funds for their terminally ill friend.

The Welsh Calendar Girls was the idea of Karen Vaughan McClelland of Garndolbenmaen who wanted to raise money for her niece, Donna McClelland, who has been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer which has now spread to her liver, bones and lungs.

Donna, 39, is currently undergoing a Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT) which could help prolong her life, but a second round of this treatment could cost her up to £15,000.

The funds from the sale of the calendar, in which the women pose semi naked hidden behind different items, will go towards any further treatment Donna will need in the future.

The calendar was officially launched last week at Venu in Pwllheli and those who attended were also able to take part in a fundraising raffle to boost funds.

One of the calendar girls, Enlli Williams from Llanbedrog, said the group were thankful for all the support they have received.

She said: “The launch night for the calendar was very successful, we have so far raised over £3,000 through fundraisers and that is without the sale of the calendars, so we are thrilled with the support we have received so far!"

The calendar, priced at £7, is on sale in most shops in Pwllheli as well as many around the Dwyfor area.
