An Aberystwyth councillor has asked planners to consider enforcement action against developers of two seafront buildings in the town after he was inundated with complaints.

Residents in the Aberystwyth North ward have approached local councillor Mark Strong asking him to take action over the condition of the former council-owned Swyddfa’r Sir building and the former Deva care home building, both on the promenade.

They have also complained about an area of land by Infirmary Road following the building of flats nearby.

Safety fears led to a road, known as Police Station Road, next to the Swyddfa’r Sir building, being closed off on Friday by council officials.

Cllr Strong said he had often been approached about the three sites ever since he became a councillor seven years ago.

Cllr Strong said: “All three sites have been causing issues for several years and I’ve been fairly restrained about it.”

The owner of the Deva, Vince Morgans, is already subject to an enforcement notice from Ceredigion County Council ordering work to be carried out there.

Swyddfa’r Sir was sold at auction to a development company which had unveiled plans to convert the building into a spa and hotel, plus flats, but potential funding from the Welsh Government was not available for the scheme and there has been little progress since.
