A councillor has said “I’ll believe it when I see it” in response to a pledge by Welsh Water to repair a long-standing leak at Penparc Reservoir, near Cardigan.
Residents of Penparc claim that the leak at the reservoir has resulted in the loss of thousands of gallons of water, some of which has been running down the nearby A487 trunk road over the past few months.
A post on the Pentref Penparc Twitter feed stated the reservoir was at least 55 years old.
“When was the last time investment was made at this essential storage facility?” it asked.
“The problem will only get worse if not addressed.”
Cllr Clive Davies expressed frustration at the ongoing situation.
He said: “Should it continue and should we get a hard frost on ungritted parts of the main road, that could be even more costly for Welsh Water.”
Apologising for any inconvenience caused by the leak, Welsh Water tweeted on Monday that repairs at the reservoir were in the pipeline, although Cllr Davies remains sceptical.
“It’s taken them over three months – basically they said they were dealing with it months ago,” he said.
”So I will believe it when I see it.”
A Welsh Water spokesperson said: “We are aware of a leak on the pipe which takes water from our service reservoir at Penparc.
“This repair is complex as the main supplies a large area, including the town of Cardigan."
