I wonder if Ceredigion and Aberystwyth councils are in competition for the most incompetent and complacent local authorities in the UK? In the year when Wales’ First Minister encourages us to holiday in Wales, how does Aber respond?
It keeps the tourist information office closed, allows putting green on the castle to close, fills popular paddling pool in with sand, cement and paving (apparently on the grounds that water alone was too heavy for the supporting structure!!) allows flower beds to go untended, rips up crazy golf facility on seafront etc.
The Cambrian News reported recently on the complacent attitude of the town council towards addressing the need to look for examples of communities such as Llandudno which have successfully addressed the decline which Aber is experiencing.
Aber and all those who love the town deserve better. As someone who has holidayed here for the last 65 years and enjoyed generations of my family using the paddling pool and putting green, I do hope things change.
As I write this I observe workmen digging up the extended pavement in Pier Street which they had only completed installing two weeks ago – apparently someone had miscalculated the dimensions required. I suggest Basil Fawlty could run these councils more efficiently.
