ELECTRIC car charging points could be introduced in some Ceredigion car parks following “frequent” requests from motorists.
Cabinet members agreed to allow Pembrokeshire-based Park and Spark to use information about the county’s car parks to put together a proposal for Ceredigion.
A report by Lyndon Griffiths, of the highways department, said: “There are currently no public use electric vehicle charging points in Ceredigion, making the area inaccessible to electric vehicle owners due to the lack of infrastructure.
“Park and Spark offer a unique business model which works on a series of sliding scales depending on various elements (churn within car parks, dwell times, available budget etc).
“This allows the company to offer free installation of both fast and rapid chargers in car parks throughout the county, based on a sole supply concession agreement being agreed.”
Cllr Alun Williams, the highways Cabinet member, said he had been keen for the council to provide electric car charging points for some time and backed the proposal.
He said: “Having wanted to address this issue for some time there is pleasure in putting this recommendation before you.
“I very much hope this will result in us being able to provide electric charting points in Ceredigion.”
Council leader Ellen ap Gwynn said any decision to proceed in providing facilities with a company would need to go out to tender.
