CALLS are being made for Natural Resources Wales to give Porthmadog the “attention it so desperately needs” to tackle the threat of flooding.
Concerns have been raised during the last year following devastating floods in Tremadog and the floods during Festival No 6 which left hundreds of cars stranded in fields near Porthmadog Football Club.
In October, Natural Resources Wales announced it was looking at immediate and longer-term plans to manage flood risk in Porthmadog and Tremadog.
However, Cllr Jason Humphreys, who represents Porthmadog East on Gwynedd Council, has questioned their commitment to Porthmadog after they failed to repair a tidal door in the town during October, which was promised in a recent newsletter.
Cllr Humphreys said: “I’m becoming more and more frustrated and disillusioned with NRW. Several promises that were made in a long-awaited newsletter to Porthmadog residents, to me personally and to local landowners are yet to materialise."
Cllr Humphreys also says he’s disappointed there has been no liaison group set up between NRW and the town council to discuss the issues.
Dylan Williams, operations manager for Natural Resources Wales, said: “We apologise for the delay in replacing the Glaslyn tidal gate at Y Dora, Porthmadog. We will continue to monitor and manually operate Gate No1 until the door is repaired in late February/early March 2017."
