Madam,

Rumours abound that more toilets are to be closed in Tywyn. If true, there will be almighty backlash from the public, as there are inadequate facilities, with just two toilets available at the moment.

This issue was raised at the last meeting of the Older People’s Forum, followed by a lengthy debate by the irate 40-plus people attending, who will be running a campaign in an effort to make sure that this does not happen, starting with a petition and letters to various prominent people in the area.

About seven years ago, a number of councillors, including myself, fought to use the station building as the council chamber and the clerk’s office, on the closure of the Institute, but we were outvoted, so the building could be rented out in an effort to bring in some much-needed revenue. That very revenue is now owed to us by the present incumbent, amounting to £22 000.

Just think how many toilets could be kept open with that kind of money in the estimates?

Yours etc,

George Buckley, Tywyn.
