CAMPAIGNERS are promising to clamp down on Blaenau Ffestiniog dog owners who don’t pick up their pet’s mess.
Plaid Cymru councillor Annwen Daniels is confident that the community will come together to tackle the problem of dog fouling after a specialist streets officer stated the community has one of the worst cases of dog fouling in Gwynedd.
“The problem has increased in recent months,” said Cllr Daniels, who is herself a dog owner.
“A number of people have contacted me to complain. It’s time for us to take pride in our community, bring back our sense of community spirit, put rigorous measures into practice and work with the authorities to tackle this disgusting problem from our streets.
“Most dog owners enjoy caring for their pets in every sense, but a small number give us all a bad name.
“Dog muck bags are available, free of charge, at the Dref Werdd office on Blaenau Ffestiniog town square and at Brethyn Blaenau, the wool, yarn and thread shop.
“People can dispose of the bags in a public waste bin, dog fouling bin or green wheelie bin. So there is no excuse.
“We will offer more shops the opportunity to promote free bags and display posters, so the bags are available more widely in the town.”
One business in the town that is affected by the problem is Garej Bowydd Garage.
One of the garage’s owners, Callum Campbell said: “It’s a disgusting problem to have on your doorstep, for us as staff trying to avoid the dirt when arriving at work and for our customers when coming to the garage to discuss car repairs.
“In addition, we have had some cases where cars drive through the dirt and the mess is left all over the vehicle’s wheels.
“I am fully behind any collaboration at every level to tackle the problem. There is no excuse for not clearing up after your dog.”
