A PORTHMADOG bowel cancer survivor has launched a 30-day ebay auction to raise awareness and money for charity.

Dafydd Farr Jones, 33, was diagnosed with bowel cancer at just 26 years old in 2009, and since beating the deadly disease he has raised thousands of pounds for the Beating Bowel Cancer charity to help raise awareness.

His latest auction has been launched to coincide with Bowel Cancer Awareness Month during April.

Dafydd, who lives in Sittingbourne in Kent, lost his father, Robert Jones, to bowel cancer only last year and says more needs to be done to raise awareness of the disease.

He said: “This month is Bowel Cancer Awareness month and much more needs to be done to highlight the disease.

“I was only 26 when I was diagnosed and last year my dad died from the disease aged just 61.

“He was misdiagnosed three times as he had cancer in other areas of his body – his stomach aches were marked down to side effects of medication, and having read his notes extensively it has made me aware that more needs to be done to raise awareness of bowel cancer, and thousands of people who are being misdiagnosed.”

The former Ysgol Eifionydd pupil has many celebrity supporters and this month he has received backing from television personality Lady Colin Campbell, who was the surprise hit of ITV’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! last year.

“This month I’m doing a 30-day ebay auction to raise money and awareness. Items include a signed football from former Liverpool star Michael Owen, signed rugby boots by England player James Haskell as well as an opportunity to have afternoon tea with the biggest star of I’m a Celebrity – Lady Colin Campbell, also known affectionately as Lady C,” added Dafydd.

Lady Campbell has praised Dafydd’s efforts and is fully supportive of his campaign to raise awareness of bowel cancer.
