One of the UK's oldest sailing traditions returns to New Quay this August as the Cardigan Bay Regatta marks its 150th event with three days of sailing, sporting competitions and family entertainment.

Taking place from 18 to 20 August, the Cardigan Bay Regatta will bring together sailors, residents and visitors from across Wales and beyond to celebrate a remarkable milestone in the event's history.

First held in the 19th century, the regatta has become a much-loved fixture in the town's calendar, showcasing New Quay's rich maritime heritage and strong community spirit.

The three-day event will feature a packed programme of sailing races, inshore sports and family-friendly activities, with opportunities for people of all ages to take part.

Sailing competitors can enter a range of dinghy and cruiser races held on the waters of Cardigan Bay, while those looking to stay closer to shore can register for a variety of popular inshore events.

Activities across the regatta include swimming, kayak and paddleboard races, treasure hunts, the ever-popular crab-catching competition, barrel-filling challenges and the traditional model boat-building competition. Younger visitors can also get involved in the sandcastle-building competition, which has become a favourite part of the regatta programme for generations of families.

Organised entirely by volunteers, the Cardigan Bay Regatta continues to thrive thanks to the dedication of local supporters, sponsors and businesses.
