THIS Friday, could see the longest conga line ever organised in Ceredigion, if not Wales, as a Conga in Cardigan event is being held with donations going towards Comic Relief.
Fitness coach Sheila Williams is behind the fun event and hopes that people will join the conga line as it goes around the town.
“I was watching television on two occasions, when I heard the conga song being played and saw it done on The One Show and I thought Cardigan Conga," she said.
"We’ve had a great response to it and I just want to raise as much money as possible and for people to have fun. It starts at 5.30pm so is an ideal time to catch people to join us as they leave work.”
The conga will leave the Guildhall and head down Priory Street. It will then head towards the castle, up Grosvenor Hill and back to the Guildhall.
“We are in the process of organising the music and are asking people to download the conga song on their mobiles. We have lots of ideas flying around and maybe we will ask various theatres to help us,” added Sheila who is asking everyone taking part to wear a red nose.
But the big question remains – who will lead the conga through Cardigan?
“Well, the mayor of Cardigan, Clive Davies, thinks it’s a great idea and will be asked to lead it, but he’s away and hoping to return in time for the conga to start. If he can’t get here in time, we will have to rethink, but he was very positive about the event,” said Sheila.
The conga will start at 5.30pm outside the Guildhall, and will move around the town collecting people on the way. A donation of £1 per person is required.
