A CHARITY which is selling its Llanbadarn Fawr care home for people with learning disabilities has insisted it will still continue to provide support for people in north Ceredigion.
Prospects has put Plas Lluest up for sale, claiming that changes to how services for people with learning disabilities are managed means that providing care homes is no longer the best way of providing support and services.
But while tenders for the 15-bedroom mansion are due in by 11 April, Prospects has insisted it will continue to provide services in the community.
Fifteen people are currently cared for at Plas Lluest. Decisions on where they will live following a sale are expected to be made by Ceredigion Council’s social services department.
A spokesperson for the charity admitted that the building, which was the first care home the charity opened in 1976, was up for sale and that future services would be based around providing support for people in supported living.
The spokesperson said: “Responding to a changing environment for the provision of care for people with learning disabilities, Prospects is putting up for sale the first care home the charity opened."
A council spokesperson said: “The council supports the development of community-based options as an alternative to residential care and has been in discussion with Prospects regarding their plans for some time."
