“REVOLTING” dog fouling in Aberystwyth Castle grounds has become so bad it is “an accident waiting to happen”, councillors have said.

At a meeting of Aberystwyth Town Council last Monday, councillors Wendy Morris and Mair Benjamin were vociferous in their criticism of the town council’s lack of willingness to tackle the issue, and called on councillors to back a motion which will explore what powers the town council could take on.

Cllr Morris said: “I need to bring this up as I am almost daily approached by residents of the Rheidol ward.

“The castle grounds have become so badly littered with dog fouling that it is an accident waiting to happen.

“Responsible dog owners are picking up other dog owners’ mess.

“People are going up with big black bags to pick it all up; we cannot ignore this anymore.

“We need to be harsh and we need to get the message out there.

“It is getting out of hand. It is revolting up the castle, and if we are encouraging people to use the area, it needs to be somewhere you want to go.

“You often see children running around up there and it is dangerous.”

Dog law enforcement is currently carried out by the county council and police, meaning the town council has generally always passed complaints relating to dog fouling on to the county council.
