AN ARCHITECT who designed an award-winning building at Machynlleth’s Centre for Alternative Technology has been awarded an MBE.

Pat Borer, who also teaches architecture at CAT in the Wales Institute for Sustainable Education building that he designed, was named in the New Year Honours list.

Mr Borer, who lives near Oswestry, said his long relationship with CAT and the aims of energy efficiency and renewable energy that he shares with CAT mean that he considers that the honour is also a reward for CAT and the work it carries out.

He said: “The MBE is as much for CAT as for me. The citation refers correctly to the Centre for Alternative Technology, no doubt in recognition of the innovative ‘green’ buildings we have constructed over the last 40 years.”

Adrian Ramsey, the CEO of CAT, paid tribute to Mr Borer following the honour.

He said: “This honour is a fantastic acknowledgement of Pat’s achievements in sustainable, low-energy architecture and design. All at CAT join in with our congratulations to Pat.”
