Improvement Society

GARY chaired the first committee meeting of 2016, with secretary Chris and minutes secretary Amanda also present. The society was pleased to welcome the joint WI representatives, Maggie and Wendy, to their first meeting.Chris and Amanda are also joint acting treasurer until the AGM. Amanda had produced balance sheets for film nights, which again showed a profit, and an interim balance sheet for the hall, which was healthy in spite of the £3,500 expenditure on a new CCTV system and intruder alarm following last year’s break-in and theft.Chris reported bookings remain steady, a new yoga class is starting and film nights will resume in February. The WI is very keen to have a defibrillator for the village. Maggie and Wendy agreed to investigate this further, but said they had encountered problems in their previous efforts to provide one.Everyone agreed more volunteers are desperately needed to help run the hall, film nights and social events. The society has the bookings and the revenue, but three ‘full’ committee members can not do all the work involved behind the scenes. There will be a leaflet drop shortly asking if any residents are willing to get involved. The next meeting is the AGM on Thursday, 4 February, at 7.30pm. All are welcome to come along and provide the society with feedback.
