CEREDIGION Museum has been nominated for a Creative & Cultural Skills Award, celebrating individuals and organisations who champion excellence in the creative industries.
The Aberystwyth-based museum has been shortlisted for the Museums and Heritage Skills Award alongside Gateshead College/Tyne and Wear Archive and Museum and The Design Museum.
The winner of the award will be announced at a ceremony at the Lowry in Salford on Monday, 16 April.
Museum curator Carrie Canham said: “We are absolutely delighted to be nominated for the Museum and Heritage Skills Award.
“Ceredigion Museum has a long history of supporting people to develop skills relevant to the heritage sector, from short work placements to focused projects delivered in partnership with other organisations, such as Tir Coed and Coleg Ceredigion.
“The great thing about museum skills is that they span a wide range of activities, so many skills are transferable to other occupations; for our Heritage Lottery-funded project, New Approaches, the skills we’ve helped people develop range from collections care to event management to product development for our new shop.”
New Approaches was the name given to the major redevelopment of the museum, creating a new entrance, combined tourist information centre, shop and café with integrated community engagement projects which providing training and support to deliver fundraising activities, provide digital access to the people’s story of the Coliseum and heritage-related activities for young people and families, and offer workshops and events.
