Madam,

As a Scout leader in Penparcau, I write to you with concern over the safety of local children outside of Llwyn-yr-Eos School, both within and outside of school hours.

Our Scout group in Penparcau meets every Wednesday night during the school term, and I am astounded that more measures to protect children on busy main roads haven’t been put in place by the county council.

Though I welcome recent campaigns to introduce a crossing in the vicinity of Neuadd Goffa, I question why nothing has been done about this in the last four years that our councillors have sat and why has nothing been done about the junction leading from the school on to the main road.

As one pulls out of the school those attempting to turn right down Pen y Bont hill are causing a confusing and dangerous mire of slow-moving traffic that poses considerable threat to people attempting to cross the road outside of the school.

A simple solution would be to impose a no right turn order making drivers use the nearby roundabout thus improving pedestrian safety and improving traffic flow up Pen y Bont.

Having spoken to many parents about the issue, it’s clear to me that this is strongly felt by our community in Penparcau. It’s about time something was done to address this overlooked issue. It may be a simple fix, but the impact would be huge.

Yours etc,

Charlie Kingsbury, 4th Avenue, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
