A HUGE 34 local good causes have been chosen to benefit from nearly £6,500 raised through the 2016 Cambrian News Charity Aberystwyth 10k.

Applications were invited for a share of the £6,421.70 raised as proceeds from the race held at the beginning of December.

Cambrian News is the main sponsor of the race, which is organised by Aberystwyth Athletics Club and Carl Williams. The race raises thousands of pounds for charities each year and thousands of pounds of sponsorship was also raised by runners, who will be donating their money direct to the charities of their choice.

The successful applicants this year are as follows: HAHAV (£500), Hywel Dda Health Charities (£500), Aberystwyth Town Carnival (£400), Aberystwyth Silver Band (£300), Canolfan y Môr speech and language centre (£266.70), Showtime Singers (£210), Blood Bikes Wales (£200), Penparcau Community Forum (£200), Care Society (£200), Aberystwyth and District Stroke Club (£200), Aberystwyth and District Floral Society (£200), 3rd Aberystwyth Scouts (£200), 2nd Penparcau Explorer Scouts (£200), 2nd Borth Beavers, Cubs and Scouts (£200), Borth United Football Club (£200), Budokan Ceredigion Judo Club (£200), Advice Centre Mid Wales (£200), Aberaeron Swimming Pool (£200), Parc Natur Penglais Support Group (£200), Gogerddan Hunt branch of Pony Club (£195), Aberystwyth Friendship Group (£150), Llanddewi Brefi Hall Committee (£150), CAMAD (£150), Llanilar Show (£100), Aberystwyth National Coastwatch (£100), West Wales Asso­ciation of Young Scientists (£100), Aberystwyth Kronberg Twinning Association (£100), Aberystwyth Kronberg Partnership Association (£100), Cylch Meithrin Pontrhydfendigaid (£100), Côr y Gors Choir Borth (£100), Machynlleth Community Children’s Project (£100), Aberystwyth Cats Protection (£100), Organ Donor Garden Penparcau (£50), Ysgol Llanon After School Club (£50).
