A CHARITY ball held in memory of lifeboatman has raised funds for a Meirionnydd RNLI station.

Leona Oldroyd held a charity ball last month in Trearddur Bay Hotel, Anglesey, to raise money for both Alaw Ward Alternative Therapy Department, and the RNLI Craig Steadman Lifeboat Appeal.

Guests were treated to a fun night which included a hot buffet, a DJ and local entertainers and Leona was grateful for the support from local businesses who donated prizes towards the evenings raffle.

Leona decided to split any funds raised due to the care she has received from Alaw Ward, and also due to knowing Craig Steadman since he was a teenager.

Craig Steadman was a popular and well-loved volunteer lifeboat crew member at Holyhead RNLI who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident in August 2015.

A new Inshore Lifeboat to be based at Barmouth RNLI will be named in his memory and is due to be operational within the next few months.

While the £48,000 to cover the cost of the new Inshore Lifeboat has already been raised, the money will ensure Barmouth RNLI will be able to continue saving lives at sea when the Craig Steadman arrives on station.
