THE charity Welsh Hearts is holding a concert at the Tabernacl in Machynlleth next Saturday to raise money for more life-saving defibrillators.

Seven defibrillators have already been placed in Machynlleth, all part-funded by Welsh Hearts thanks to fund-raising events throughout Wales.

Another seven have also been part-funded in other villages in the county, and training provided for their use.

The Concert for the Heart, which starts at 7.30pm on Saturday, 24 September, will feature National Eisteddfod-winning Aberystwyth choir Cor Ger-y-Lli, led by conductor Greg Roberts and with accompanist Menna Griffiths.

Also taking part are Bois y Fro, who are four members of the choir and have formed a close harmony quartet.

They will be joined by Linda Griffiths, who has released many solo records as well as recordings as a member of the well-known group Plethyn. Linda hails from Meifod.

The evening also includes a young Aberystwyth violinist, Thomas Mathias, who is a second-year student at the Royal College of Music in Manchester, and who has just returned from a six-week course in Virginia for the best 40 violinists in the world.

The concert will be introduced by Aberystwyth actor and comedian Glan Davies, who is a volunteer and mid Wales representative for the Welsh Hearts charity.

He has had fame on Pobol y Cwm and, more recently, Hinterland.

Mr Davies said: “It is fitting that the concert is held in Machynlleth as seven defibrillators have been part-funded for the town by the charity, along with another seven in villages in other parts of the county. Training in their use has also been provided where required.

“We hope that further funds raised from this latest concert will enable us to continue our campaign to see defibrillators in every community in Wales. So far we have provided and part-funded most of the 400 located in Wales.

“Welsh Hearts as a charity provides training skills, education and equipment in the community to save lives, but to achieve our aims the charity requires funding, so I urge people to support us by attending this fund-raising concert on Saturday night.”

“We are proud that all the money we raise stays in Wales and is spent in Wales for the benefit of the communities of Wales.”

Tickets for the concert cost £10 and are available from Y Tabernacl and the Plas in Machynlleth.
