Snowdonia National Park has issued a warning to visitors to check if car parks are full before travelling.

The park has issued the advice following chaotic scenes at the weekend when its car parks filled up fast and drivers left their cars along roads, blocking traffic.

Police were called to the park and 180 vehicles at Pen y Pass alone received fixed penalty notices.

The status of car parks can be checked the Snowdonia National Park website, along with a statement which says: “If you are traveling to Snowdonia by car, please help us protect the national park’s communities and visitors by following the following guidelines.

“Be Safe - Always follow social isolation guidelines. Keep a safe distance between yourself/your group and others. Be aware of any cramped areas and wash your hands after touching any hard surfaces including pay and display machines.

“Walk lightly - Be prepared to change your destination. Prepare more than one option in case you get to a rushing area.

“Be kind - Park in the right places. Do not park on the roadside or across any access, it can cause problems for farmers, communities or the emergency services.”

North Wales Police said: “If you are visiting Snowdonia National Park, please park responsibly and safely.”

Footage of cars parked along roads at Snowdonia National Park on Sunday led to emergency talks on Monday. Snowdonia National Park said a multi-agency report is expected soon on parking and transport arrangements, under the Snowdon Partnership banner.

Gwynedd’s Plaid Cymru MPs and MS have called for solutions, describing the weekend’s scenes as “chaotic,” and saying the area “cannot wait any longer for a lasting solution”.
