A Ceredigion choir is heading to the land of the Super Troupers and Mamma Mias to compete in one of the world’s most prestigious choral competitions this week.
Côr Ysgol Gerdd Ceredigion, made up of 34 ‘Dancing Queens’, is looking forward to representing Wales at the Eurovision Choir 2019 event at Gothenburg, Sweden.
“It will be quite a big deal flying the Welsh flag on the Eurovision stage in Sweden,” said 18-year-old Marged Ioan, who has been part of Ysgol Gerdd Ceredigion for almost a decade.
“Nothing will ever match up to the experience. Getting the chance to represent Wales is very special.”
There will be an opportunity to follow the choir’s journey to Gothenburg in a special programme - Côr Eurovision 2019: Y Daith i Gothenburg - on S4C on Friday at 6.35pm.
The actual event will be shown live on S4C at 7pm the following night.
Last time Wales finished second, so Ysgol Gerdd Ceredigion is intent on capturing gold.
“We’re heading to Eurovision to do our best,” said conductor Islwyn Evans. “The girls are extremely excited.
“Just getting the chance to represent our country in Gothenburg is an honour in itself. The whole experience is the cherry on the cake after winning Côr Cymru 2019.”
