Christmas Day and Boxing Day are the only days of the year when Gwynedd Council workers won’t be out collecting bins.

As this may cause inconvenience to those who would normally receive a collection on Friday, 25 December or Saturday, 26 December, special arrangements have been made to collect residual waste (green bin or black bags) in the days following Christmas to make sure that no one goes more than three weeks without a collection.

Those who will miss a residual waste collection on Christmas Day and Boxing Day will receive a collection on Monday, 28 December, with recycling and food waste collections the following week.

Although a bank holiday, there will be collections for everyone scheduled for one on Friday, 1 January.

Gwynedd’s recycling centres will be open over the festive period, with appointments in advance. They will be open until noon on 24 December and will reopen on Monday, 28 December.

The centres will close on New Year’s Day and will re-open on Saturday, 2 January.

Cllr Catrin Wager, Cabinet member for municipal, said: “There is much we can do to reuse items and think about how we can turn a new leaf in 2021 and cut down on what we throw away. As a council we will be looking to launch exciting schemes in the new year to encourage reusing many items.

“Of course, we realise that Christmas can mean more rubbish than usual but we can all do our bit for the environment over the festive period. We therefore encourage residents to make use of recycling centres.”

Steffan Jones, head of municipal, added: “Full details of all your waste and recycling arrangements can be found online. As part of the efforts to cut down on the use of printing, we will not be posting waste and recycling calendars for 2021.

“You can check your collection arrangements by downloading ‘apGwynedd’ on your smartphone or seeing a digital copy of your collection calendar by typing in your postcode on the website www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/whereilive and if you choose, you can print a copy yourself.
