A KEEN climber is bracing himself for the mammoth task of tackling Wales’ tallest peak 10 times in a single day.
Pwllheli hairdresser Christopher Dineen will attempt to walk all 10 of the paths leading to the peak of Snowdon in aid of Wales Air Ambulance between dawn and dusk.
Explaining the enormity of the task ahead, Christopher said: “I have had a passion for climbing for some time, but this challenge is my biggest to date.
“In 1999 I moved to the beautiful Llyn Peninsula and instantly fell in love with the picturesque north Wales landscape.
“I first climbed the Cnicht peak 14 years ago and since then I have been hooked.
“I have tackled many different climbs, from the very popular three peaks to even scaling Kilimanjaro two years ago. I find it’s great for both physical and mental fitness.”
Christopher aims to tackle the challenge, which will total 45 miles and nearly 19,000ft of ascent, on Saturday, 7 July.
Christopher added: “I have been training most weekends and the route is not unfamiliar to me.
“I remember dreaming up the slightly crazy idea of walking all 10 routes of Snowdon in 24 hours and now, with less than a fortnight to go, the realisation is beginning to set in.”
Christopher’s arduous task will begin in the small hours of Saturday, 7 July on the Llanberis path, before reaching the finish line near the Youth Hostel on the Snowdon Ranger path.
Wales Air Ambulance fundraising manager Lynne Garlick said: “We would like to wish Christopher all the very best with his challenge. It’s certainly no mean feat and with Christopher attempting it during a mini Welsh heatwave we certainly hope he is carrying plenty of water for the journey.”
Christopher added: “I have decided to support Wales Air Ambulance as they provide a crucial service which is supported totally by the public.
“I know the challenge is going to push me to my physical and mental limits, but it gives me a great sense of pride to raise money for a such worthy cause. Anyone wanting to donate to my challenge can visit the salon ‘Beachy Hedz’ opposite Asda Pwllheli.”
