Coleg Ceredigion students are putting the finishing touches to two productions which take place this month, with one group tackling ‘The Scottish Play’ and the other a Kander and Ebb classic musical.

First up is Shakespeare’s Macbeth. In this tale of treachery, betrayal and the supernatural, Macbeth colludes with his wife to kill the king.

Guided by the Weird Sisters, Macbeth continues his bloody killing spree until he meets his nemesis Macduff.

Shakespeare’s themes – nature, the supernatural, ambition, time and human frailty – makes this the most accessible of his tragedies.

The production is performed by Level 3 Performing Arts students from Coleg Ceredigion and is directed by Phil Croskin.

The cast includes Daniel Pipe, Osian Harries, Ella Bouvier Lewis, Milly McAvoy, Lewis Relfe, Pema Hostler, Rebecca Hicks, Rebecca Herbert, William Leonard, Yvette Moyies and Isabella Burkitt.

The show is on at the Castle Theatre, Aberystwyth, on Thursday, 6 June at 7pm and on Friday, 7 June at 1pm and 7pm.

The following week, it’s the turn of the cast of Chicago to present their sexy, sultry, sadistic, satirical version of the musical.

In the roaring ‘20s, Chicago chorus girl Roxie Hart murders her lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap, but when he finds out he’s been duped he turns on Roxie.

Convicted and sent to prison, Roxie and another murderess, Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the American dream.

This sharp satire features a dazzling score that sizzles on top of incredible choreography in the style of Bob Fosse.

The production is also performed by Level 3 Performing Arts students from Coleg Ceredigion and is directed and choreographed by Carl Lewis, who is also the show’s musical director.

The cast includes Becca Riches, Harriet Evola-Quinn, Tristan Clemas, Jessica Harwood, Jess Finnigan, Zoë Lister, Jay Boswell, Faye Brightman, Lorna Monaghan, Ruby Wilde and Jordan Jones.

Chicago is on at the Castle Theatre on Thursday, 13 June at 7pm and on Friday, 14 June at 1pm and 7pm. Strictly no late admittance. For 15 years+.
